Arbroath smokie 12ka4Smokies12ka4 are whole wood-smoked haddock with the backbone still intact. They12ka4re still produced in small family smokehouses in the east coast fishing town of Arbroath in Scotland. Good for poaching, grilling, making fishcakes and pies, and used in kedgeree and soups.
The Arbroath smokie joined a select band of European speciality products when it was awarded Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) status by the European Commission on 2 March 2004, joining names such as Roquefort cheese, Stilton and Jambon d12ka4Ardenne in achieving protection against imitators.
